The Palms is a property with an incredible view overlooking the whole breadth of St Ouen’s Bay. The existing house was a previous conversion with an upside down layout and only 2 bedrooms.
The architects brief was to extend and transform the property with low maintenance and a low carbon footprint. As well as our ultra Low E triple glazing we utilised the very latest Weru ColdStop shutter box technology (concealed within the walls). This was a particular challenge with ourselves and Larsens owing to the portal steel construction but the result was superb and the external envelope whether in Render finish or the special Composite Cladding worked perfectly.
The property has other features eg a green roofed two storey extension, which blends into the sand dune behind. The extension contains floor to ceiling Weru HS Panoramic Patio Doors, whilst the existing building is clad in a composite timber cladding, to update the aesthetic. The Gullwing roof was finished in Zinc to match the entrance extension, with the remaining roofs being covered in lawn.
The Living area has a superb open plan aspect maximising the views with some bedrooms downstairs that also retain a sea view. The project also featured a Glazed Lantern and a Glass Roofed Link way between the original dwelling and the extension. This lets light flood in and in conjunction with the Weru Klima Therm triple glazing summer cooling is very effective. There are also Glass walk on roof lights within the Terrace to maximise daylight to the cooler rooms below.
The continental window shutters are all on timed control which also ensures comfort in high summer. These are obviously a very standard option available from Weru (having invented window roller shutters in the 1930s!) The very latest shutters can be ordered as an integral part of most Weru windows.

Building Regulations are very strict in Jersey and we had to provide very specific wind load and performance accreditations on all the windows and patios along with all fixing materials and method statements. The project now complete has already seen a lot of very severe weather with no issues with our products whatsoever.
Installation was carried out in 3 phases and each coincided with high wind and horizontal rain which made job and the ferry crossings an even bigger challenge to our skilled fitters. As always they coped admirably the end result has been greatly admired within the local community and beyond.
